Nature’s Reset

Sometimes the best creative inspiration comes when you stop searching for it.

Last month I spent 5 days surrounded by trees, lakes, forest walks, bike rides, a water park and plenty of laughter with my family.

And it reminded me of something I think about a lot as a photographer…

The images we connect with most aren’t always the ones that simply show what something looked like.

They’re the ones that bring back a feeling.

Forest floor with ferns and fir trees
Tall firs with dappled light down to the forest floor

The quiet moments walking through the forest.
The excitement of the kids exploring.
The conversations on the bike rides.
The little details you notice when you slow down.

I spend so much of my time looking for the details that make food feel irresistible, but this week I found myself doing the same thing with nature.

The way light fell through the trees.
The textures of the forest.
The colours reflected in the lake.

Backlit fern in the forest
Purple foxglove illuminated by the sun
Shadow of the fern cast on the floor

Because whether it’s food, a place or a family memory, the most powerful images don’t just capture what we saw.

They capture how it felt.

A much-needed little reset 🌿
